About NW Gun News

An independent regional news publication covering firearms, legislation, gun rights, shooting sports, hunting and outdoor issues throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Who we are

News for the Northwest outdoors

NW Gun News provides news and information covering firearms, legislation, gun rights, shooting sports, hunting and outdoor issues affecting communities throughout the Pacific Northwest.

We are a news publication, not a retailer. We do not sell firearms, ammunition or accessories, and our reporting is built around the regional reader — the hunter planning a season, the competitor heading to a match, and the resident following a bill through the statehouse.

Our Coverage, Regional Focus, News & Updates

Our Coverage

NW Gun News reports on firearms legislation, gun rights litigation, shooting sports, hunting seasons and outdoor access across the Pacific Northwest. Our beat is regional by design — the rules that shape a Northwest hunter's season are written in state capitals, county commissions and federal courtrooms, not only in national headlines.

Regional Focus

Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Wyoming each manage firearms and wildlife policy differently. We follow all five, tracking the bills, tag draws, closures and court decisions that change what readers can actually do in the field.

News & Updates

Alongside full reports, the newsroom publishes short-form updates between editions — hearing dates, application deadlines, portal changes and developing policy news — so readers hear about a change before it takes effect.

How we report

Every story begins with a document, a hearing record, a filed brief or a conversation in the field. We name our sources whenever it is safe to do so, separate confirmed fact from pending speculation, and correct the record publicly when we get something wrong.

  • Regional reporting from all five Northwest states
  • Primary-source coverage of legislation and litigation
  • Plain-language explanations of what a change means in practice
  • No advertising influence over newsroom judgement

A regional newsroom

The Northwest is a landscape of mountains, forests and rivers, and the issues we cover are inseparable from it. Season structures, access rules and range capacity all depend on terrain, weather and wildlife — so we report from the ground, not just from the desk.

If you have a tip, a document or a correction, the newsroom wants to hear from you.
